Unlike Field Artillery, Signal
Corps, Engineer and other types of units, Antiaircraft Artillery
battalions were not an integrated part of Army divisions. They were
attached as needed. The only exception is the specialized airborne
antiaircraft/antitank units
organic to airborne divisions.
If you
are searching for information on a particular AAA battalion and are unable
to locate its unit history on this website or through other sources, check
and see if the battalion appears in the left column of this table.
Note the organization the battalion was attached to, paying attention to
the time span. Historical information on Army divisions is readily
available and will serve as a good starting point for personal research on
your battalion of interest.
The table is sorted by unit number most applicable to the period, and may
not reflect parent organizations or subsequent redesignations.
Where no battery is specified, it assumes all batteries of the battalion.
Platoons are indicated by the letter p and sections (fire units) by
the letter s. In the Battery column, a listing
of A, B1p would indicate the attachment of A Battery and one platoon of B
Battery (not necessarily 1st platoon), while the entry B/1st p
would indicate 1st platoon of B Battery.
