ANTIAIRCRAFT COMMAND - Preserving the History of U.S. Army Anti-aircraft Artillery of World War II

This website is dedicated to all the officers and enlisted men of the

U.S. Army Antiaircraft Artillery of World War II.

I offer a special dedication in memory of my father, Pfc. Louis P. Brooks, a machine gunner in 1st Platoon, Battery B, 481st Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion. This site is a result of my efforts to retrace his war experience.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Photographs If you have photographs that would be appropriate for this website, your willingness to share them is appreciated.  Photographs must be in the public domain (Signal Corps prints or other U.S. Government images).  Personal photographs are acceptable if you are the owner of the image and are willing to grant written permission for use.  Period news photographs and images of unknown origin that may have renewed copyright or other ownership restrictions are not acceptable.  Please do not send original prints, as I do not assume responsibility for loss or damage.  A professionally made copy or a high-resolution digital scan is preferred.  I do not purchase photographs, so no "for sale" offers please.  As you can see, I freely share my collection on this site.  I appreciate those who would do the same.

Unit HistoriesOne of the primary goals of this website is to provide an online reference source of World War II Antiaircraft Artillery unit histories.  Many people are seeking information on the organizations their relatives served with in World War II.  This can be an extremely frustrating pursuit, especially when researching Antiaircraft Artillery.  (I speak from experience.)  Your contribution could mean much to a family who wants to know what their loved one experienced in the war and where he traveled.  If you have a history published by an antiaircraft battalion shortly after the close of the war, or copies of other primary documents pertaining to a particular unit, please share them.  Legible photocopies or scans are acceptable, as long as there are no copyrights on the material.  In recent years, veterans of a few battalions have produced published works on their units.  These newer histories are copyrighted and cannot be used here, unless you are the copyright holder and grant permission for the work to be hosted on this website.  As with photos, I rarely purchase unit histories.

Oral Histories:  I love to talk to and correspond with antiaircraft veterans.  Their individual stories and experiences are important and must be preserved.  If you are a veteran, or a relative of a living AAA vet, please contact me.

ErrataOver two years of careful research in primary sources preceded the launch of this website.  My research remains an ongoing effort.  However, mistakes are possible.  If you catch any inaccuracies, please let me know.  I do ask that you provide documentation of any errors, as I desire to maintain the highest possible accuracy standards for the material presented on this site.

Contributions This website is not my full-time occupation.  It is a labor of love to honor my father and his brothers-in-arms in Antiaircraft Artillery.  If you appreciate the information on this site, please consider a small contribution, or shop the bookstore.  It will be much appreciated.  All funds will be used to offset the costs of site hosting, continuing research, and my living history presentations at schools and for various organizations.  Contributions are not tax deductible at this time.

This site does not promote nor condone the political philosophies of the extremist regimes of the World War II period.  Certain period photographs or documents may contain symbols of Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan or Fascist Italy.  These images are presented for historical purposes only and are not intended to offend anyone nor advocate extremism.  (This should go without saying, but...)
