ANTIAIRCRAFT COMMAND - Preserving the History of U.S. Army Anti-aircraft Artillery of World War II

125th Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion (Mobile)

The following is a PDF reproduction of the unit history published by the 125th AAA Gun Bn and printed in Belgium during 1945.  This 90mm gun battalion helped defend England, Antwerp and Liege against German "buzz bomb" attacks, as illustrated on the cover.  For its role in the defense of Antwerp, the unit earned the Belgian Fourragere.  Although trained in the California desert, the 125th saw action during the cold European winter of 1944-45.

This unit history is well-written, entertaining and personal.  Original artwork and photographs are presented throughout the work.

125th AAA Gun Bn Unit History in World War II

The following photographs are provided as a supplement to the history of the 125th AAA Battalion.  They are taken from the photo book of Edgar "Lanny" Lanham, a veteran of Battery A.  These photographs were graciously provided by Dave and Kaye Lanham, in memory of their father.  They are used here by permission.

A very sobering photograph of the wreckage of an M4 tractor used to tow 90mm AA guns.

The No. 1 gun crew of Battery A fell victim to a V1 bomb attack as the battery convoy moved along the Meuse River in Liege, Belgium.  12 soldiers of the 125th lost their lives instantly, and both the gun and this tractor were destroyed.

This tragic incident is memorialized in the unit history.

A Category I claim for A Battery of the 125th AAA.  This FW-190 was shot down near Liege, Begium in December 1944.
